Cavalaire-sur-Mer
Cavalaire-sur-Mer is located between Saint Tropez and Le Lavandou on the most southern bay of the Var coast. Its long and magnificent beach, its creeks make the reputation of this summer resort, overhung by the chain of Pradels. Enjoying a mild and sunny climate throughout the year, Cavalaire presents the ideal setting to indulge in some tourist getaways: l’Île du Levant, Porquerolles and Port Cros. It’s a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. In the summer, at nightfall, the streets and café terraces come to life. From one place to another are organized outdoor concerts and shows.
The town was detached from Gassin in 1929 and the village is placed on the route of the old railway Saint-Raphaël – Toulon [also called Train des Pignes]. However, you can follow the route of the old railway line, from Lavandou to Saint-Raphaël. The village was also the site of major military operations during the disembarkation of the allies of Provence during the Second World War: every year on August 15, a large military parade and a reconstruction of the camp were organized.
